I think the key to my issue could be to add the additional folders as directories within VLC settings, however I don't know what the path would be for the folder on Chromebook (I know its not the same as Windows, lol!) and can't seem to find a thread with this information. The file is on an external hard drive as there isn't enough local memory on the Chromebook for it, and I also tried copying it to the local memory card I use for extra local storage, without success. For way 2, you need powerful media player VLC & external DVD drive. I have checked the VLC preferences on my Chromebook and can see that I can add certain directories to be included in the media library, so far only 'internal memory' is selected.
I also have a Windows device so have checked that the mp4 can be played using VLC, updated the settings to have VLC as the only media player that can open the file, and have uninstalled/reinstalled VLC on my Chromebook. I am trying to play an mp4 using VLC on my Chromebook but am getting an error message stating that the file cannot be played.
